How?
How did I become like now. Here is the story of Arie.
At the age of average elementary school student, I touched a computer keyboard at my school, that was my very first time touching a keyboard.
At the age of average junior high school student, I took a course learning WordStar using that monochrome monitor and a flat computer with a big floppy disk as an A: for DOS then changed the diskette to WS then all set. Then I learned Lotus 123 after getting my WS certificate. Then I quickly finished (as far as I remember it took 2-3 weeks while other normal colledge students took a month and a half) Lotus course and became an informal instructor assistant at that course (the place is at Mulawarman University Samarinda, hm, what a lovely memory that I want to enjoy being there again, the place is near UNMUL Library). Then after Lotus, I learned dBase III+, oh, I didn’t have my personal computer at that time because my parents weren’t afford to buy a Desktop PC which was still expensive at that time, so I began to write all those notes, all those learnings, within my visualization, I wrote it on my notebook, I repeated, everywhere I was, I usually visualized that one day I got my own Desktop PC than I would practice fluently and happily ever after.
Luckily my papa got a project at Tenggarong (it’s a capital city of Kutai), he got money, then decided to facilitate me a Computer :-) So there I was, so happy with my new Desktop PC Wearnes DX2 486 with 4MB of RAM and a harddisk (I forgot how many MB I got for my harddrive size because I used to use a diskette). It’s running DOS.
Then I learned FoxPro. At the time Windows 3.1 launched, I also learned MS Office, howa I still remember how my father’s and my paradigm got changed from WS at DOS to MS Word at Win 3.1, printer setting was a mess. But that didn’t take long, because I made money from English translation to Indonesia and also typing colledge students’ thesis when I was at beginning of the age of average senior high school.
In the middle of my senior high school, I decided to move to Semarang Central Java Indonesia. Continuing my school there. It was a tough fact as they (Semarangese) even use Javanese language (one of Indonesian tribe language) while teaching in a classroom … I learned Javanese with the help of my classmates for around 3 months to get used to understand of what they were talking about.
It was tough fact also because at that time I must see the fact that my father got by-pass surgery. So of course that took lots of resource which would be endless to tell the story. That experience became a gift for me… I turned my brain to learn many things by myself from the internet, many programming language. I actually even took Photoshop course before I decided myself into programming. Delphi was one of my choices to learn because I’ve got a nice neighbour who liked to share his knowledge with me all the time, I sank myself into many different programming language and I think I was just at the level of glancing until I met Ruby.
I began making money using PHP in around 2004 while I learned/researched Ruby by myself. Having Pickaxe and Ruby way books were a breeze. One of my prototypes that successfully got done was a furniture site (using PHP) then I continued making a web based hotel reservation system in Rails in around 2004 and 2005 …
During those periods, I wrote so many things, on my notes (offline), I mindmapped on every paper I thought would help to leverage my skill (all using autodidact), got acquaintanced with many people from free software world who brought me to *nix/Linux world. Until I joined so many mailing lists, forums, online communities in the internet.
I was a little bit wondering why I got so many solutions that people often asked …. As far as I remember that was the reason why I started putting my notes on the internet, I forgot how I put my notes to any places, I think geocities would be the first place… then this WordPress blog. And here it is… There were just flooding notes I wrote to help me mindmapping …. I hope these notes that I wrote with love , full of hope and success courage using autodidactic method would also be useful for others who always seek the truth just like me.
I guess that is about it .. That’s the story of Arie. That’s the story of how I started putting notes on this blog.
This blog contains various many topics, especially about ruby including rails and those ruby worlds that I’m usually having fun with.
This blog contains sharings, that could be me, my friends, people in some countries, anyone, but without saying his name. I usually ask permission to that someone first before mentioning his name, because I often found those guys are too shy to be mentioned and prefer to be just anonymous.
About this blog copyright, well anyone can just use it as a reference and remember to link to the source here, but of course it’s all about DIY (Do it Yourself) so I won’t be responsible or listening to any complaints if perhaps a linux newbie run rm -rf / on his box then destroyed his machine.
If you find your videos were posted/embedded in one of my posts here, that doesn’t mean that vid belongs to me. That’s usually because I love the vid (usually music videos) and I want to play it over and over. I embedded it because I saw I could embed it and I just assume that anyone who love the vid can embed it. Feel free to contact me if you as the owner fall down about it.

Just let your code product talks.
Tentu saya cuekin.
